Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Magallanes.

Bobby, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating from Texas Tech, I got my first job in advertising as a graphic designer for an ad agency in Lubbock in 2002. We did traditional advertising – newspaper, magazine, outdoor and tv. One day, the owner asked if I could build a website for a client. I had little web experience, but I said yes and figured out how to do it. Eventually, my role evolved into website designer, then, art director.

After four years at the ad agency and winning many awards, I thought I’d reached the “top” in Lubbock, so I began looking in Austin and Dallas for a job in a digital agency.

I landed a job as a conceptual designer at imc2 in 2006. At imc2, I got to work on big brands like Olay, Crest, Eukanuba, Prilosec, Coke, Scope, and Iams. While there, I made many contacts with other digital creatives who introduced me to the world of freelance.

As my freelance work began to grow, it eventually brought in as much income as my full-time job at imc2. It was then I decided to go out on my own and grow my business. My clients included “mom and pop” shops, creative agencies like Fleishman-Hillard and Integer, startups like Ziosk.

Now the business has grown to include even larger clients like American Airlines, Balfour and bigger agencies like Rockfish Interactive.

Our design agency is built on an array of creatives, developers, and strategists that allow us to scale for any given project. We’re an adaptable and multi-disciplined team, which gives us freedom and flexibility when it comes to working with our clients. We obsess over details and aren’t afraid of the hard work it takes to create timeless and unyielding results for brands.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have been truly blessed. While some months are slower than others, we have never had to go out and knock on doors to look for business. Most all our business comes through referrals or through relationships we’ve built with fellow creatives who have worked their way up into top-end positions that call us when they need new ideas or extra “firepower”.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Collective Dallas – what should we know?
We help entrepreneurs, creative agencies and businesses of all sizes build their brand and tell their story. Our years of experience in digital and print means we’re comfortable tackling projects and solving problems of every size, both online and offline — whether it’s crafting a new brand identity, designing an outdoor billboard, building an e-commerce site or planning and creating an annual report.
